Pool Hours
Pool hours are from 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Early Bird Lap Swim and Learn To Swim programs are alsoavailable. Outdoor pools will close for the season on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

New York City at the turn of the century had as many as 15 "floating baths" moored along the East and Hudson rivers. These were rectangular structures held afloat on pontoons, with changing rooms and offices on the perimeter and a center hollow lined with slats, which allowed river water to run through. The floating baths were moored at street ends, usually near the tenement districts, and provided an opportunity for the pubic not only to bathe but also to learn to swim.
Inspired by the floating baths of late nineteenth century New York, Ann Buttenwieser established The Neptune Foundation. Its mission was to commission the design and construction of a prototype for a new generation of movable waterfront pools for recreationally underserved communities.
The Foundation purchased a barge. The barge was retrofiitted at the Bollinger Yard in Amelia, Louisiana to include a half Olympic-size pool. Final work was completed at Pier 2 in Brooklyn.
The vessel was christened "The Floating Pool Lady."
